The Lock-Up is busy preparing for COLLECT, a group exhibition featuring almost 100 artists from the Hunter and beyond. As The Lock- Up’s annual commercial offering, COLLECT is an important fundraising exhibition, with all showcased works available for purchase.

COLLECT 2022 includes a diverse roster of young and emerging artists alongside high-profile artists from Newcastle and the Hunter, including Michael Bell, Sally Bourke, Lottie Consalvo, Dani Marti, Lucas Grogan, Vera Zulumovski and James Drinkwater.

This year’s opening night will feature drinks, food, dancing and a wild night of 80’s Karaoke, brought to you by COLLECT artists Bridie Watt, Jan Denzin and Lyndal Campbell.

Courtney Novak, The Lock-Up’s Artistic Director said “COLLECT has become one of the most anticipated exhibitions in The Lock-Up’s program. By purchasing works in the exhibition, you are helping support artists and The Lock-Up simultaneously, as all proceeds from the sales go to participating artists and help raise funds for The Lock-Up.”

“COLLECT really has become the perfect platform for artists to connect with passionate collectors, while elevating young and emerging artist’s professional practice,” she said.

Now in its fifth year, The Lock-Up’s Young & Emerging Curator Internship has been awarded to Kar Mun Phoon, an emerging creative and Tantrum Youth Arts Resident who has worked locally in Newcastle within its private and public arts institutions. Kar Mun currently balances her position as a Youth Advisor at Newcastle Art Gallery, her COLLECT Curatorial Internship and her Tantrum Residency between her part-time career as a dentist.

Works will be available for purchase both at the gallery and via The Lock-Up’s online shop, which launches on the opening weekend of 20 May 2022.
