Join the party on the Newcastle foreshore for an inclusive celebration of community, creativity and fun!

Queens Wharf Precinct will be transformed into a welcoming and vibrant community party featuring family-friendly activities, bike parades, live music, local food providers, and the must-see 9pm fireworks.

NEWY NYE 24/25 is proudly an inclusive and accessible event, with a dedicated drop off zone, accessible pathways, a dedicated fireworks viewing area, audio descriptions of the fireworks and a quiet zone for visitors to reset during the party.  

Don’t miss the giant 12 metre long NEWY NYE inflatable walkway, decorate your 'wheels' and join the hourly Big Bike Parade featuring whacky inflatable characters, and experience the magical Wishing Dome featuring giant illuminated jellyfish.

NEWY NYE 24/25 also features dedicated areas of fun for kids, picnic spots, DJ's, local music and delicious gourmet food from local food vendors.

Event Highlights

Take your wheels for a spin in the Big Bike Parade! Stop by a Creation Station and decorate your bike, scooter, pram or wheelchair, and then join in the parade each hour from 5:30pm until 8:30pm.

The NYE event features a 1km bike and accessibility pathway, helping everyone to explore and enjoy the range of events on offer. 

Immerse yourself in a sea of floating illuminated jellyfish hanging in the Wish Walk. Handwrite and hang your 2025 wishes onto a sea creature to set your intentions for the year ahead. Bring on 2025!  

There'll be face painting, texta tattoos, an inflatable ninja course, and interactive craft activities to ensure a fun-filled experience for children of all ages.  

A diverse array of local food vendors will offer delicious cuisine, showcasing the culinary talents of Newcastle.

Bring your picnic rug and enjoy the relaxed surroundings of the foreshore in anticipation of the 9pm fireworks. Depending on your mood, situate yourself near one of the DJ's or the Retro Jukebox to soak up the NYE vibes.

NEWY NYE 24/25 will feature a range of performances from talented local musicians on the Tiny Stage at The Station, and pop-up DJ's throughout the precinct to get the party started.

NEWY NYE 24/25 is an event for everyone. A range of accessibility options are on offer to help visitors with disability or access needs.

- View the NEWY NYE Sensory Story at the bottom of this page. Featuring an accessibility map and a video tour of the event area to familiarise yourself with the event before you arrive.

- Dedicated accessible parking, and a drop off and pick-up zone are located on Centenary Road.

- A continuous travel path runs throughout the event area for wheelchairs and mobility devices.

- Accessible toilets in four locations.

- A dedicated Accessible Quiet Zone for visitors with sensory needs, featuring low lighting, beanbags and headphones.

- A dedicated fireworks viewing area is available for visitors with accessibility needs, providing an uninterrupted view of the dazzling 9pm display. Families, carers and friends are welcome to accompany visitors with accessibility needs into this space. Bookings are not required. See the location of the Accessible Fireworks Viewing Area on the Event Map below.

- Within the Accessible Fireworks Viewing Area, headphones and an accompanying audio description will be available to visitors who are blind or have low vision. Registrations are essential. To register click here. Headphones can be picked up from the Accessible Fireworks Viewing Area from 8:45pm and the audio description will start with the fireworks at 9pm.

Need a break during the event? Head to the Quiet Zone and take advantage of the soft lighting, calming visuals, headphones, and comfortable seating to help you reset before you re-join the party.

Stop by the Creation Station and decorate your bike, scooter, pram or wheelchair, and then join in the Big Bike Parade. We also recommend decorating your wheels at home and arriving ready-to-go! It's a great activity for the whole family between Christmas and New Year - recycle your wrapping paper, get creative and be a part of the hourly parades from 5:30pm onwards. 

The NEWY NYE team will be minimising waste wherever possible! You will see the Waste Team wearing colourful costumes and playing percussion on the bins throughout the event. The team will help you separate your cans and bottles, recyclables and general waste. Look out for them and be sure to read the signage on the bins to do help the Waste Team. 

From 9pm – 9:15pm the skies above the harbour will come alive with a dazzling fireworks display that can be viewed from the waterfront.

There is a dedicated fireworks viewing area for visitors with accessibility needs that will provide an uninterrupted view of the fireworks display.

Within the dedicated viewing area, an audio description and accompanying headphones will be available for visitors who are blind or with low vision. Registrations are essential - Register Here.

Newcastle New Year's Eve Sensory Story

  • 31 December 2024, Queens Wharf Precinct.
  • If you are travelling by car, we have a dedicated Accessible Drop Off Zone on Argyle St.
  • There is Accessible Parking available on Centenary Road.
  • The event site is just a short 200m away, with seating along the way in case you need a rest. The event has a continuous path of travel with no obstacles or hills.
  • Staff will be wearing yellow vests and can direct you to any of the following event areas. The areas outlined in the Sensory Story video will feature signage at the event to help you find the event areas.
  • Dedicated Picnic Zones are along the water, however if you like a seat we recommend you bring your own or head to The Station area where seating is provided. The Station is located on the corner of Scott and Watt Streets.
  • The Creation Station is an interactive space where you can decorate your wheels of any kind and participate in the Big Bike Parade. You can view the Parade at 5:30pm and then every hour until 8:30pm.
  • The event has 5 music areas along the Foreshore and at The Station, all with a different flavour.
  • You will find an accessible toilet at each toilet block location.
  • The Wish Walk is another sensory experience with pastel lighting inside a marquee. You can write your wish for the new year and hand it on a hanging jelly fish. There is a DJ at this zone.
  • First Aid is located at the Kids Zone and at The Station. Information is also located alongside First Aid.
  • Contact detail wristbands can be collected from the Information Areas, these can be worn by children attending in case they become lost.
  • The Accessible Quiet Zone is a space you can find noise cancelling headphones, seating and soft lighting to unwind and settle. This is a free space and open to visitors with accessibility needs for the whole event.
  • The event activities commence at 5pm and run continuously throughout the evening until the 9pm fireworks that will run for approximately 15 minutes.
  • The Fireworks Accessible Viewing Area is open from 8:30pm and you are welcome to watch the fireworks from this area with your family and friends. This is located alongside the Ferry Terminal on Queens Wharf.
  • Audio Descriptions of the fireworks are open for bookings from the 27th December. If you would like to register here is the link for more information. Headsets can only be used within the Accessible Viewing Area.
  • Staff will be wearing yellow vests and will be happy to assist in any way.
