Wallsend 150

17 Aug 2024
Nelson Street & Wallsend Skate Park

Wallsend is turning 150 years old, and you're invited to help celebrate!

In honour of this milestone anniversary, City of Newcastle will host a free community event and street festival from 1pm - 6pm on Saturday 17 August.

This family-friendly event will feature local talent and displays, rides, food, music, dance, performances and stalls, with the theme of the event centred around inclusivity and belonging.

There will be a range of entertainment and immersive activities on offer, including roving performances, musical acts, interactive craft and play for toddlers, a historical walk, cultural workshops, light and image projections and “UP and UP” art workshops at Wallsend Skate Park.

The lineup on the main stage includes performances by Under Construction Mental Health Community Choir, local singer/songwriter Cherelle, the Blue Sapphire Chinese Dancers, Samba Frog, Deya and Paco Lara Flamenco Duo, the Marching Koalas and more.

A local Wallsend Church Group will be providing historical dress and photo booth activation, The Creative Co will keep the kids entertained with messy play and a cake smash, and when the sun goes down, stories of Wallsend's history will be projected onto local buildings through a collection of photographs selected in partnership with the local historical society.

With up to 2,000 event attendees expected, Nelson Street will be closed for the festivities from Cowper Street to Boscowan Street from 9am until 9pm on the day.

Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy a great time out celebrating Wallsend through time.

The Wallsend 150 Celebration event is part of the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program led by Transport for NSW.
