Get on your bike this month and get pedaling for Biketober.
The fun, friendly competition is for everyone and will see individuals, businesses, and communities around Australia compete to see who can get the most friends, family and co-workers to ride a bike during October.
You can ride anywhere, anytime, and it can be for fun, fitness, or transportation!
If you haven't been on a bike in years, it's the ideal opportunity to rediscover the joy of riding. Already riding? Then it's time to get your friends, family and co-workers enjoying all the benefits of riding a bike.
There are some amazing prizes to be won, but the real winner will be your health and fitness.
You can sign up as an individual or an organisation; it's free for individuals to take part, and the cost for business participation is covered by City of Newcastle.
Have fun, feel more energetic and do your bit for the environment! There are so many reasons to get on your bike this Biketober and beyond. Register on the Love to ride Newcastle website and get pedaling.
Need some bike path inspo?
City of Newcastle has recently completed the Merewether to the City (Stage 1) and Hunter Street Trial Cycleways, so what better opportunity than now to get on your bike and try them out!
Hunter Street Trial Cycleway
If you've been in the city centre recently, you might have noticed the brand-new Hunter Street Trial Cycleway. The separated cycleways on both sides of the road stretch between National Park Street and Worth Place, making it safer for cyclists and maintaining traffic flow for vehicles. This project is a key element of the City Centre Revitalisation Program, and critical for increasing active transport, renewing Hunter Street, and delivering on the transport objectives outlined in the Newcastle 2030 Community Strategic Plan.
City Centre to Merewether Cycleway – Stage One
Construction is also now complete on the City Centre to Merewether Cycleway – Stage One. The 1.1km, 2.5-metre-wide shared path along Watkins Street runs from Glebe Road in the Junction all the way to Merewether Beach. The timing is just perfect - grab your towel and ride to the beach to enjoy the sunny spring days!
