BON APETIT - City’s taste buds set to tingle as Newcastle Food Month kicks off

  • 31 March 2023

Are you hungry, Newcastle? It’s time to indulge in all of the culinary delights the region has to offer because Newcastle Food Month  is set to kick off this weekend.

Fast becoming one of the ‘must dos’ on the New South Wales foodie festival scene, the third iteration of Newcastle Food Month get underway on Saturday, with the world-famous posh pop-up picnic Le Dinner En Blanc providing the enticing amuse-bouche for a month-long menu of enticing culinary events.

This year’s program includes everything from delectable degustation from Thai to vegan and everything in between, Bottomless Brunches to Beer-Gustations, High Teas, beef and whisky feats, masterclasses, and more.

Sydney chef Matt Kemp will also be coming to town for a special function that will see him take on three of his apprentices from a bygone era who now head up kitchens of their own in the region.

Now in its third year, Newcastle Food Month has grown to become one of the most popular regional food fests in the state and now involves more than 100 local businesses including restaurants, bars, cafes, producers, winemakers and more.

Organisers Gus and Louise Maher said that the month-long festival was a great way to show some love to the region’s hospitality industry who have, no doubt, faced a tough few years.

“it’s a great opportunity to support the local hospitality industry after a couple of really tricky years, and for us to celebrate all the incredible food offerings we have in this great city. We urge locals and visitors to Newcastle to try somewhere new in 2023,” Louise said.

Almost 50 restaurants will be plating up a super special dish for the month with a matching beverage, this year’s Plate Date is a month worth of grazing made easy and the city’s eclectic range cafes, restaurants and pubs will be plating up some great offers throughout the month that are sure to tantalise the taste buds.

Newcastle Food Month is on at various venues from Saturday 1 April to Sunday 30 April. Head here for a full program, tickets and more information.
