Newcastle will continue with Yuletide cheer this weekend when the Newcastle Permanent brings its ever popular Christmas Under The Stars event back to the picturesque King Edward Park.
Kicking off at 5pm on Saturday 17 December, the family-friendly event will feature a range of talented local artists singing all your favourite christmas carols, a bumper program of fun activities for the kids, and free popcorn.
And what goes best with free popcorn? Yep, that’s right - a Christmas movie and, after sundown, families can enjoy a screening of the hilarious 2018 iteration of the Dr Seuss festive classic The Grinch starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Rashida Jones, and Pharrell Williams.
There will also be food trucks on site offering a variety of tempting food and drink treats, or you can even bring along your own picnic to enjoy.
There is even quite a solid rumour that the man in the big red suit himself - yes, Santa Claus - will be making an appearance at this special event.
Newcastle Permanent CEO Bernadette Inglis said the prospect of bringing such a popular event back to Newcastle for the first time since 2018, was an enticing one.
“It’s always such a great night – singing carols, sharing popcorn and watching a family-friendly Christmas movie, and we’re so delighted to be bringing it back,” she said.
“There’s nothing quite like an Australian Christmas, shared with friends and family in the great outdoors, soaking up our glorious summer weather.
“So be sure to bring the whole family to be part of what promises to be our best Christmas Under the Stars yet!
Carols and entertainment will be provided by the Kylie Jane Band, The Vanguard Players, John Newsome, Joy Trio, Star Struck, and Belmont Dance Centre.
Getting to the event couldn;t be easier, too, thanks to a free shuttle bus service. Keep an eye on the Facebook event page for more info.
The Newcastle Permanent Christmas Under The Stars is on Saturday 17 December from 5pm.
