Hey Artists, Newcastle Art Gallery Needs You

  • 02 February 2023

Do you have an artistic vision that is just waiting to be shown off to the people of Newcastle.

Well, Newcastle Art Gallery wants to hear from you.

That’s because the gallery curators are currently on the hunt for new works of art to be displayed on the temporary fencing erected around the site during the construction phase of the Gallery’s ambitious multi-million dollar expansion.

Four works will be commissioned to be digitally reproduced for display on the construction hoarding for the duration of works which are expected to commence mid-2023 and artists and artist collectives from across the country are invited to apply.

The initiative is a great opportunity for both established and emerging artists to reach new audiences, given the site’s prominent location in the centre of the city.

The Gallery expansion project will deliver an additional 1,600 square metres of exhibition space as well as a new cafe and retail shop, multi-purpose and educational program spaces, and a secure, international standard loading dock.

Despite the Gallery currently being closed, it is still very much at the forefront of the cultural agenda in Newcastle, thanks to such initiatives as school outreach programs, its Night Galleries project and six-part podcast series, Conversations From the Collection.

Expressions of interest for the Newcastle Art Gallery Construction Hoarding Project are open until Sunday 19 February. Head here for more information.
