2020 was a challenging year, and 2021 has us right back in the thick of it. Nobody ever imagined we would be living through the middle of a pandemic, but here we are trying to navigate our way through it while staying safe and sane.
Despite the difficulties, this year is full of learning opportunities. You might be taking stock and wondering what you can do to improve, where you can work on yourself, and where there is opportunity for growth.
With disruption comes opportunity. Whether you're thinking about studying a degree, changing careers, improving your physical and mental health, or exploring your spiritual side, it's a great time to explore your options and take action.
If you're ready to push outside of your comfort zone, here are four events to save the date for...
Explore learning opportunities
The University of Newcastle is getting ready to hold their 2021 Open Day on Saturday 28 August. If you've been thinking of studying a degree, now is your chance to explore your options! Come along to the open day and check out the university, speak with current students and academics, experience the campus, and find out all you need to know about uni life. Prospective students and their friends and families are welcome to attend the tours, interactive demonstrations, and activities for all ages on the day. There will also be a free shuttle bus between campuses so you can check out all of the learning spaces available for UON students.
Discover your spiritual side
The Newcastle Spiritual & Lifestyle Market is coming to Newcastle City Hall on the weekend of 18 and 19 September. This is a great opportunity to explore your spiritual side while browsing for faery and majikal products, tarot decks and books, crystals and gems, and handmade items. Healing services will also be available at the event including Readers and Psychics.
Reset your health
Looking to reset, refresh or smash those goals you had put on the backburner? Get the best health advice, tips and tricks from industry professionals at Hunter Events Health, Wealth & Wellbeing on Sunday 7 November. Newcastle Showground Exhibition Centre will be buzzing with interactive demonstrations, guest speakers (including three-time Olympic Gold Medallist Stephanie Rice), kids activities and lots more. Whether you're looking for financial advice, meal prep tips, or how to overcome anxiety, the event will have something for everyone. Expressions of interest are also now open for health, wealth and wellbeing professionals to participate in the event.
Improve your wellbeing
Hugh van Cuylenburg, founder of The Resilience Project, has partnered with elite sports teams, over a thousand schools, and more than 500 workplaces to teach simple and practical mental health strategies. He’s also a best-selling author and co-host of popular podcast, the imperfects. Join Hugh for The Resilience Project at Newcastle City Hall on Wednesday 24 November, where he'll walk you through his journey, and tell the stories of incredible people who have inspired him and The Resilience Project to spread happiness. Hugh will unpack the research on mental health and break it down into simple tips that will leave you feeling empowered to improve your wellbeing. An inspiring event for anyone who wants to share a laugh and pick up some wellbeing tips along the way.
Note: some of these events may not go ahead depending on COVID restrictions at the time. Make sure you check directly with event provider closer to the time of the event, and always follow the latest health advice from the NSW State Government.
