LEST WE FORGET: Your Guide to ANZAC Day 2023 in Newcastle

  • 20 April 2023

It is more than 100 years since the ANZACs landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula, but remembering the sacrifices they made and reflecting on ideals they uphold, is as important as ever.

It is also a day to commemorate all Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations and the contribution of all who have served.

Below is a guide to ANZAC Day services and commemorations happening throughout Newcastle on Tuesday 25 April.

Lest we forget.

Newcastle Dawn Service
Commencing at 5am at Camp Shortland, the Dawn Service will include a band, bugler, choir and bagpipes.
The service will conclude at 6am with a four-gun Salute to the Fallen and there will also be a controlled blackout of the site prior to the commencement of the Dawn Service.

Attendees are advised to bring a torch, warm clothes and wet-weather protection.

Hunter Street March
The march will step off at 9.15am at the corner of Hunter and Perkins Streets, proceeding along Perkins Street, into King Street and moving west along King Street into Auckland Street where it will disband into Civic Park.
Road closures will be in place along the route to ensure the safe passage of the parade.

United Commemoration Service
This combined faith commemoration service will take place at the Cenotaph at Civic Park from 10am. RAAF Williamtown will also be conducting a flyover at 10am.

Fort Scratchley Firing of the Guns and Open Day
