May Offers Another Bumper Month of Events in Newcastle

It might be hard to believe that we’re already almost at the halfway point of 2023 but, looking at the amount of events popping up around the city it’s not hard to see why.

Time flies when you’re having fun, right?

Well May promises to be no different with a literal cornucopia of fun to be had for people of all ages and tastes.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a sports aficionado, live music fan, market maven, comedy kid, art lover or anything in between, Newcastle has got you covered.

Here are just six events kicking off this month that we think are definitley worth popping on the ‘to-do’ calendar.

Lost in Music
Thursday 4 May
Civic Theatre

If disco is your thing then this show is sure to transport you to a Boogie Wonderland!

Join a sensational band and amazing cast as they recreate the magical ‘70s, taking you on a musical journey straight to the heart of disco!
Relive some of the greatest songs of all time from artists such as Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Earth, Wind & Fire, Sister Sledge and Chic.

Time to start brushing up on your Hustle!

Newcastle Museum

This ambitious exhibition is about providing a space for the abundance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives with a connection to Newcastle and the Hunter Region.
Showcasing their work on what can feel like an unattainable platform - this is a chance to leave a first (and hopefully lasting) impression.

First also offers insight into the diverse and contemporary practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives. 

Mayfield Day
Saturday 13 May
Webb Park Mayfield

After a hugely popular inaugural hit-out in 2022, the Mayfield community are once again gearing up to shine a light on what makes the suburb so vibrant, eclectic and unique.

Webb Park will be filled with a huge array of stalls from local businesses, local musicians, interactive entertainment, kids activities and much more.

It’s a great day out for the whole family and the perfect chance to experience the best Mayfield has to offer!

Sleepout for Soul
Friday 19 May
Bolton St Carpark

Soul Hub Newcastle is encouraging the community to come together and raise funds to support the homeless and vulnerable in our community.

This year, organisers are hoping to host more than 500 sleepers to Sleepout for Soul with us at the Bolton St Carpark and raise a much-needed $200,000 for Soul Hub.

Let’s help make the goal a reality and support such a worthy cause.

Festival of Sweets and Treats
Sunday 28 May
The Station Newcastle

Confectionery connoisseurs will be well and truly hitting those sugar highs this month when this sweet festival rolls into The Station.

Treat your taste buds, satisfy your sweet tooth and feast your way through mouth-watering cakes, chocolates, pastries, lollies and more.

There’ll be plenty more sweet treats on offer including workshops, live music and loads of activities for the kids.

Newcastle Comedy Festival Gala
Saturday 27 May
Civic Theatre

Newcastle’s biggest month of comedy will, again, kick off in grand style with an all killer, no filler lineup of some of the finest rib-ticklers in the business.
The jam-packed two hour show will feature non-stop hilarity from Tommy Little, Michael Hing, Tom Cashman, Chris Ryan, Nick Cody, Julia Wilson, Nick Capper, Andrew Hansen, Ivan Aristeguieta, Paige Hally and  ow very own drag doyenne Timberlina.

Oh what a night!
