What's On this summer?

  • 14 December 2021

There's plenty happening in Newcastle over the summer months so we thought we'd flag a few fun and interesting events that you might want to add to your calendar!

Exhibitions

You finally have some down time, so why not use it wisely and check out some of our city's amazing cultural venues where there is always an exhibition or two to see!

Newcastle Art Gallery has three amazing exhibitions on display until end of January. INSTRUMENTAL CAUSE is a response by Guest Curator Donna Biles Fernando to the KILGOUR PRIZE 2021, featuring portraits from the Art Gallery's collection that examine artistic modus operandi (a Latin phrase meaning "mode of operating"). There's also THE ART OF PROTEST featuring politically engaged artists past and present responding to disaster and injustice and calling for change, and JAM FACTORY ICON ANGELA VALAMANESH: about being here, an exhibition celebrating the artist's evocative drawings, watercolours, and mixed media works from her developing style of the late 1990s until present.

Newcastle Museum is a must-visit over summer with two entertaining exhibitions both adults and kids will love. Oh yeah, I forgot about that is an exhibition dedicated to a decade of change as seen through the eyes of local artist Trevor Dickinson. Be blown away by just how much has changed around Newcastle in the past ten years, as shown through the works in this exhibition. As if that wasn't enough, The Great Baby Dinosaur Show has arrived at the museum – come along to marvel at the baby dinosaurs and cast your vote for the 'Best in Show' award!
