The Porter Children. Miniature teasets, tin plate toys and other childhood memorabillia will be on show at Miss Porter's House Museum during the  Open Day, October 13, 1-4 pm.

Born during the first decade of the twentieth century, Ella and Hazel grew up in a rapidly changing time. Just as the fashions of the time went through a period of great change and became more casual and comfortable to wear, children's toys also went through a change as new materisl including plastic became available. The wonderful tinplate toys available before 1914, examples of which are in the collection,  declined as World War 1 impacted on trade with Germany. The Porter girls had dolls made from cloth and pre-plastics, early celluloid and modern soft plastics.

Also included in the display are school books and report cards, certicicates and prizes won by the girls in their time at school in Cooks Hill.

Join volunteer guides at Miss Porter's house to see these special pieces of history and so much more.
