This month we feature fashion from the Porter Household. Photos of Florenece Porter and her sisters in tightly corseted Edwardian gowns, clad from neck to ankle with large extravagant hats, will be on display.

Florence purchased a sewing machine while on her wedding trip to Sydney. This machine was used to create many garments throughout the twentieth century.

By the 1930s fashion had changed significantly and the Porter ladies were snapped wearing beautifully tailored calf length coats, close fitting hats and low-heeled sensible strapped shoes.

Many of the items in the collection are from the second half of the century. Of interest are the man made fabrics of the mid century.

Come along to Miss Porter's House Museum, a National Trust Building, 434 King Street, Newcastle West, on Sunday June 11 between 1 and 4 pm and enjoy a marvelous parade of 20th century fashion.

Admission Adult $12 Concession $10 Family $34 National Trust Members and children under 5 free.
