We stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us.

The Pink Bans were a series of work stoppages and industrial bans carried out by unionised construction workers in the 1970s in defence of persecuted LGBTIQA+ people (before the emergence of the gay rights movement).

Please join co-hosts, The Hunter Workers Union and Bernie's Bar for the launch of the Pink Bans Exhibition (currently on loan from the Unions NSW collection), paying tribute and commemorating those who took part in the Pink Bans, and hearing from speakers about the history of LGBTQIA+ rights in Newcastle- in the workplace and beyond.

Event will include:
- Pink Bans panels exhibit on loan from UnionsNSW
-Speakers John Witte and Grace Frey discussing local history and connections
-Oral History archives- sound station to listen to archived stories of local queer history
-light refreshments will be provided
