An expanded version of the Mara! Quintet, the dynamic 13 piece Mara! Big Band is touring Northern & North western NSW, showcasing their new and exciting Album "Zashto!" (translated WHY? in Bulgarian).

The gypsy brass band and jazz big band traditions are showcased in compositions by six of the current Band, and featuring texts by Bulgarian-Australian migrant Marcia Malinova-Anthiony, Iranian refugee Maryam Faghihi Rad, along with material penned by Mara Kiek, herself.

The band relates in wonderfully complex & exhilarating music, the experiences of 3 Migrant women - Irish, Bulgarian and Iranian - across a period of over 200 years - their circumstances, experiences, and trauma across a wide ranging timeframe.

The Big Band's complex arrangements and "impossible harmonies" are exciting and moving !  A musical experience not to be missed !
