The Library Lounge presents BAD Sydney Crime Writers Festival 2021.

Not able to make it to Sydney for this year's BAD Sydney Crime Writer's Festival? Don't worry, Newcastle Libraries has 50 tickets to give away to 5 specially selected live streams (10 to each session).

To enter the draw for a free ticket to one or more session simply send an email to library@ncc.nsw.gov.au with BAD Festival in the subject line. Include your name, contact email and the name of the session or sessions you are interested in. Entries close at 5pm on Friday November 26.

Festival Opening Night: Jane Harper - A life in Crime with Caroline Overington - Thursday 2 December, 5.30-6.30pm

Hear internationally renowned crime writer and household name Jane Harper in conversation about her career in crime and the filming of The Dry from her best-selling novel with Caroline Overington, Literary editor of The Australian. Jane joins us via Zoom from her home in Melbourne.

Crime Fiction as the Literature of Resistance with Sulari Gentill, Mark Brandi, Robert Gott and Kate Evans - Friday 3 December, 12.00-1.00pm

Does crime fiction try to restore the status quo in society or does it aim to dig beneath the surface, denounce injustice and corruption and fight for the victims? Hear the perspective of crime writers in conversation with Kate Evans.

When You Are Mine: Michael Robotham with Matthew Condon - Saturday 4 December, 3.30-4.30pm

To Kill the Dog Or Not, That Is The Question - Sunday 5 December, 3.30-4.30pm

Is there a line a crime writer should not cross at the risk of alienating their readers? In this lively debate, Sulari Gentill, Robert Gott, Jean Kittson and Sue Turnbull will take sides on whether or not the dog should die. Well-known dog lover Richard Glover referees.
