This year celebrates the 100th year anniversary of the tour of Britain by the Newcastle Steelworks Band in 1924. Consisting mostly of steelworkers from Newcastle, the band took Britain by surprise, making musical history and elevating Australian banding to prominence on the world stage.
In eight months, the band grew in numbers to thirty members and quickly became an important part of the social and cultural fabric of the city, and importantly a source of financial support for injured workers and their families, regularly holding benefit concerts.
Brass Band – Newcastle is a composite band drawing together the best brass and percussion players in Newcastle and surrounds.
