Come celebrate Earth Day 2024 at Newcastle Museum. This fun school holiday event aims to honour and celebrate our planet on this extraordinary day!

Earth Day is a reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability. This event is for children and families to learn about the impact of plastic and discover how to take action for a healthier planet.

Activities include:

  • Kids Art Workshops: Local artist Ken O'Regan will deliver an art workshop for children that combines art education with waste reduction and a recycling message
  • Storytime with Deborah Kelly: Meet local children's author Deborah Kelly as she reads her books Dugong Magic and Little Horses. Learn about a local project to save seahorse habitat in our area
  • Science Shows: Rockets! Marshmallows! Splitting light! The laser trumpet! Dinosaurs! And our friend Mike the Manikin will be there so you can pull out his organs and put them back like a jigsaw puzzle. Shows will run at 11:15am, 12:15pm and 1:15pm
  • Explore the City of Newcastle's interactive urban wildlife diorama
  • Local artist Ken O'Regan's artwork Fractured Sanctuary will be on display. Learn about the work and how hundreds of everyday plastic objects have been used to create a kaleidoscopic, changeable, illuminated work
  • Create an underwater bookmark or 3D paper seahorses at our craft tables
  • Learn about the lifecycle of plastic from the City of Newcastle Waste Management team
