Kick off your weekend with us at Friday Night Sounds! A dynamic addition to the exhibition ATONG ATEM, we'll be serving you an evening of sonic refreshment and art. Presented within an unconventional venue, the exhibition is a vivid offering that traces the cultural experience of belonging to two places.

DJ GNGR

DJ GNGR, also known as Abekan, is a Sydney-based DJ and afternoon radio show host at Bondi Radio, with a weekly Afrobeats show, 'Get Gingered', who draws on her Nigerian heritage to blend Afrobeat, Juju, highlife and traditional West African genres of music. GNGR moved to the coastal city of Newcastle at a young age, where she explored jazz, folk, indie-rock, hip-hop, soul and reggae music through performances in local bands. A high-energy DJ with an infectious, bubbly nature to keep you on the dance floor, Now based in Sydney, GNGR is one of the key players in the growing Afrobeats scene, with a residency at "The Box", Australia's leading Afrobeats nights.

Zia Jade

Emerging as a strong new voice in Australian R&B, Newcastle’s Zia Jade is a definitive breath of fresh air. Soulful, confident and vibrant, Zia Jade’s music represents an intelligent and refreshed blend of sonic influences and a strong vision of where her sound is set to head next.

Kamanda

Kamanda is a Liberia-born, Newcastle-based indie Hip hop artist who rivets the airwaves with accounts of what happened before. He vows to silence those who doubted him through his lyrical acumen, rapping about his life, his struggles and overcoming hard times.

DJ 13

An infectiously high-energy performer who brings every crowd to their feet, DJ 13 is the new sound on the scene! An open-form DJ with a strong Afrocentric flair for delivering addictive beats across many genres, this musical mastermind is one of Sydney’s freshest emerging talents. Paying homage to her Nigerian roots, DJ 13 has her eye on the prize and her ear to the ground for the latest tracks, delivering beats through an Afrocentric lens. Music has been DJ 13’s reason and her ‘why’. With her slick skills and dedication to music, this girl is never far from a turntable, and it shows!
