Take yourself on a walk through the history of Hamilton with our digital Hamilton Heritage Walk. This new experience is open to all ages and provides an historical and enjoyable insight into the history Hamilton. The walking trail is 3.2kms in length and includes a variety of landmarks including the Mechanics Institute, the Kent Hotel, the Fire Station, Dietz and Son Hardware, Gregson Park and the park Canons.
The Heritage Walk is easily accessible through the 'walking trails' link in the City of Newcastle app. The app uses live GPS location tracking on your smartphone or device to guide the walker through the map. At each location the app will display a number of historical images, a summary and some also include audio recordings about each place of historical significance marked on the map.
Go on an evolutionary journey through the beginnings of Hamilton, the devastating earthquake of 1989, and to the resilient and wonderful community that it continues to be today.
