Newcastle will ring in the New Year in spectacular fashion with a combined fireworks and air show extravaganza set to light up the city skyline.
The main event of this year’s celebrations will feature three jaw-dropping aerobatic flyovers (commencing at approximately 6.30pm) courtesy of Paul Bennet Airshows and their fleet of aerobatic and war planes.
While all eyes are sure to be on the skies, there will be plenty happening on terra firma, too.
The Queens Wharf Precinct will be transformed into a vibrant wonderland of art, music, Indigenous culture, play and imagination for all ages and abilities.
Looking to dance your way into 2023? Well, you’re in luck because there will be three pop-up DJ areas, including an exclusive kids’ zone, spinning reggae, soul disco, and pop sounds.
The artistic heart of Newcastle will be on full display with a self-guided sensory walk through the Queens Wharf – Market Street Lawn precinct features installations and sculptures from six Novocastrians including Jen Denzin and sensory artist Bliss Cavanagh.
Fans of family-friendly fun are in for a real treat, with the precinct also boasting a world of inflatables, obstacle courses and carnival rides.
The precinct will also feature a VIP Sensory Area designed for children on the autism spectrum and their families.
The sensory area will feature an accessible and interactive games lounge, a sensory garden with flower sculptures and a giant, illuminated sensory caterpillar, and much more.
All this fun is bound to work up an appetite, so it’s a good thing that there will also be an eclectic and mouth-watering range of food courtesy of local food truck vendors.
So, if you’re looking to wave goodbye to 2022 in style, Newcastle foreshore is the place to be.
City of Newcastle New Year’s Eve celebrations will get underway from 4pm, with the traditional fireworks display kicking off at 9pm.
