Pop-Up Op Shop Aims to Tackle Textile Waste Crisis

When

Thursday 29 February & Friday 1 March

In a bid to address the growing textile waste crisis and promote sustainable consumption, Purple Card Project and Ragtraders Newy are launching a pop-up op shop initiative, set to open in Wallsend on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays for the next two weeks.

This pop-up forms part of a Community Textile Recovery Initiative, proudly supported by City of Newcastle through a Community Support Grant Program.

With a vision for a future where textiles are not viewed as waste but as a precious resource, Purple Card Project and Ragtraders Newy are taking proactive steps to turn this vision into reality.

Partnering with local op shops and individuals, we have rescued a significant amount of textiles that were destined for exportation or landfill. These items have been given a new lease on life through a process of washing and mending, and are now available for the community to purchase!
