Newcastle Celebrates Pride

Are you ready to party?

One of the biggest parties on earth - Sydney WorldPride - is kicking off this month!

Running from Friday 17 February to Sunday 5 March, Sydney WorldPride is a celebration of Australia’s brilliant and diverse LGBTIQ+ community and will feature more than 300 fabulous events, including the iconic Mardi Gras parade which will return to Oxford Street for the first time in three years!

You’ll also find once-in-a-lifetime concerts, parties, arts, sports and First Nations programming in what promises to be one memorable celebration.

 

But you don’t have to head to Sydney to get into the WorldPride spirit, because there are some great events happening right here in Newcastle to celebrate this auspicious occasion!

Kick off your Sydney WorldPride festivities with Newcastle Art Gallery and Queer & Now for the opening celebration of Inside/Out - an outdoor exhibition at Kuwumi Place.
Featuring an incredible line-up of performers, stalls to explore and delicious Vietnamese street food from Yen’s Yumm Banhs! MORE INFO

This camp classic, starring the iconic Olivia Newton John is sure to provide a night of fun and nostalgia.

Join Newcastle Pride and Queer & Now as they bring together members of the LGBTIQ+ community to mark the start of 2023 Sydney World Pride Festival.
This once- in-a-lifetime event will be a colourful and lively outdoor parade celebrating local LGBTIQ+ culture, diversity and equality.
This is a FREE parade and the route is accessible and family friendly.

Enjoy (virtual) front row seats to The Sydney Mardi Gras Watch Party! Bring the family, and a picnic blanket, and dress in your most pride-inspired outfit for a night under the stars in Museum Park. MORE INFO

Join local authors Saxon James and N.R. Walker for an LGBTIQ+ writing workshop. Whether your manuscript is ready for an editor or you're still trying to find that queer voice for your character this informative workshop should have something for everyone. MORE INFO

Keeping up the World Pride energy, Fort Scratchley will play host to an evening of connection, collaboration and change. The City of Newcastle, in collaboration with Trans Queer Brains Trust (TGBT) and ACON, invite you to come together for a networking and planning event to discuss the things that matter to the LGBTQIA+ communities of Newcastle.
World Pride is an amazing time for celebration, but what happens after the glitter settles? What are the social changes we need and want to see that affect our queer communities in Newcastle? Come and join us for this free event, with free food and drinks provided.

Come and join Newcastle Surf Life Saving Club on a paddle out around 11:45am!
Rainbow Beaches is a national initiative through Lifesavers with Pride which aims to show the importance of diversity on our beaches and in our clubs. Diversity is key to strong, vibrant communities and organisations. See inside the soon to be renovated and restored Victoria Theatre.   The Victoria theatre is the oldest surviving heritage theatre in NSW.
